Submission guidelines

Methis publishes original academic essays in the field of literary, cultural and theatre studies.

Article proposals of 300 words should be sent for consideration to the editors of the (special) issue in advance, preferably as early as possible. The particular deadlines for the submission of full texts can be found on our website under forthcoming issues.


The language of contributions is Estonian or English. Submitted manuscripts should be set in 12 pt Times New Roman font, with 1.5 line spacing. The preferred length of the manuscript is up to 25 pages (incl. References).

For referencing please consult The Chicago Manual of Style ("Chicago Manual of Style"), author-date citation style.


The article manuscript should be accompanied by

 – an abstract (a brief summary) of up to 75 words;

 – 4–6 keywords

 – a summary of up to 750 words;

 – a short biographical note on the author.

Illustrative material must be submitted by the author as separate files in print quality. The following resolutions are optimal: line figures – 600–1200 dpi; photographs – 300 dpi. The signatures of the illustrations must be placed within the text of the article.


The journal is peer-reviewed; the contributions will be published in case of positive reviews.

MANIFESTO – programmatic (theoretical) articles

THEORY MEDIATION – translations of theory texts relevant in the field, accompanied by an introduction or commentary
REVIEW – longer review or survey essays of recent literature in the field
ARCHIVAL FINDING – first publications of archival sources, accompanied by an introduction or commentary
DISCUSSION – critical reviews of a work with the author’s response
